Taishaku Gorge

Teishakukyo is a canyon that straddles Shobara City and Jinsekikogen Town from north to south. The gorge is about 18 kilometers long and is divided into several areas, including the Kami-Teishaku area and the Shinryu-ko area. In addition to strolling through the canyon while taking in the natural beauty of Teishakyo, there are many activities to enjoy nature, such as cruising on a sightseeing boat or kayaking, making it one of the most popular spots for tourists from Japan and abroad.

The charm of Teishakyo is that you can feel the history of the earth over 4.6 billion years. In particular, the bridge named “Onbashi” is a huge natural limestone bridge that was formed over a long period of time by the erosion of limestone caves and mountain streams, and has been called “God’s Bridge” since ancient times. In addition, the Teishaku River has eroded a 300-million-year-old stratum to create the Breakwater River, which is one of the world’s rarest natural wonders.
